A Game Camera in an Alabama Backyard Photographed a 4-by-8-Foot Glowing Orb Standing Among Deer for Hours. The Deer Didn’t Flinch.

A property owner in Wilmer, Alabama, submitted a series of game camera photographs to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) in late March 2026. The images, taken over the course of several hours on the night of March 25, show a large, egg-shaped luminous object near deer feeding in the backyard. NUFORC estimated the object at approximately four feet in diameter and six to eight feet in length. NUFORC’s own standard classification for an object near a camera is “insect flying close to the lens,” and they explicitly declined to use that classification for this report. The deer in the photographs do not react to the light. They continue feeding. The light moves its position from left to right over the course of the night and changes luminosity.

Game cameras — the motion-triggered trail cameras used by hunters, wildlife observers, and increasingly by property owners with unexplained visitors — have become one of the most consistent sources of unexpected photographic documentation in the paranormal space. Unlike video captured by startled witnesses, game camera footage carries a kind of passive credibility: the camera was not there because someone expected to see something. It was there for deer.

The Wilmer report specifies the object was photographed “multiple times over the course of several hours throughout the night.” This is not a single anomalous frame — the kind of blurry smear that could be explained by a moth near the lens or a condensation artifact. Multiple images. Multiple hours. The object persisted in the yard well beyond any reasonable window for a transient light source to stay in position.

The property owner’s own observation about the deer carries significant weight for anyone familiar with animal behavior research on anomalous encounters. Deer are prey animals. Their threat response is calibrated to the extreme — any unfamiliar stimulus in their immediate environment at night, including domestic lighting, movement at the perimeter of their visual field, or unfamiliar scent, typically produces immediate alertness, head-raising, and departure. This deer did not depart. “It’s even around the deer while they are eating grass,” the owner noted. “You can tell the deer are even looking at it.” Looking at it — acknowledging its presence — and continuing to eat.

What NUFORC Said

NUFORC’s note on the report is the most significant element of the documentation. The center fielded the submission and wrote directly: “Normally we would classify this as an insect flying very close to the camera, but this image is unusually bright.” That sentence is doing quiet but substantial work. NUFORC processes hundreds of reports monthly. The insect-near-lens explanation is the fastest and most commonly applicable dismissal for small, close-range luminous objects on trail cameras. They chose not to apply it here. The size estimate of four feet wide and six to eight feet long, if accurate, places the object well outside the scale range for any insect or bird that could produce a luminous artifact on a standard game camera sensor.

The object’s behavior over the night — moving laterally, changing luminosity, remaining stationary near feeding deer across multiple hours — does not fit the flight pattern of any standard animal or insect. It also does not fit a fixed light source such as a neighbor’s porch light or a car on a road, which would remain static in frame rather than shifting position.

What It Was Not

Determined. The NUFORC entry for Wilmer, Alabama, March 25, 2026 remains an open, unclassified sighting. The photographs have not been reproduced or examined by an independent imaging laboratory. The object has no name, no proposed mechanism, and no analog in the standard reference literature for game camera anomalies.

What it has is a series of clear photographs, a property owner’s firsthand account spanning an entire night, the behavioral testimony of deer, and a notation from the National UFO Reporting Center that this one does not fit the usual explanation.
